Questions & Answers

Technical Questions:
The game errors and says "This application has failed to start because d3dx9_33.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." What should I do?

First off, be sure you have DirectX 9 installed. If you already have it installed, try installing it again. Microsoft continually releases newer versions of DirectX 9, and so your version may be out of date.

I can't find my savegames. The game shows them for loading, but when I look in the WorldSupremacy\savegames directory, there's nothing there. Where are they?

Under some security settings, Windows will not allow new files to be written under your Program Files directory. Instead it saves the files in this location: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Shrapnel Games\World Supremacy.

I can't find any maps for use in multiplayer games. Where are they?

If you don't already have a number of maps in your World Supremacy\Maps directory, then these are available as a separate download. Check our Patch page for details. You can also use maps that you generate from the game. Here's what you need to do:

1. Start a new game (or use an existing game) and select Game Menu\Options.
2. In the Options window, at the bottom left is a "Save Map" button. Press this and enter a name for your map. The map will be saved in your World Supremacy\Maps directory (or possibly in your C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Shrapnel Games\World Supremacy\Maps directory).
3. Now you need to distribute this map (the entire directory) to any players you wish to play a multiplayer game with.
4. Start a multiplayer game, and select the map which all players have.

General Questions:

Is the game moddable?

Yes! You can create your own mods to the game which completely change the graphics, sounds, music, units, and technology. All data is stored in simple to edit text files. If you did any modding in SE4 or SE5, this will be very familiar.

Can I make my own maps?

Yes! A map making utility is included in the full version of the game.

Can I nuke other players?

Yes! Nukes devestate entire regions of the map, killing units and damaging the area's value.
