Questions & Answers

Demo:
1. Does the demo have everything the full game has?

No, the demo is a limited version of the full game. The full game has 15 full empires, 10 neutral empires, full multiplayer support, more components, more facilities, full modding support, and no 100 turn limit!

2. Can I continue a game from the demo in the full version?

No, you cannot continue a demo game in the full game. Because the demo is a limited version of the full game, it does not contain the same data files. You need to start a new game when you get the full version.

General Questions:
1. Is it possible to use a boxed version of SE V to play against a player using a Steam version (and vice versa) ?

Yes, both types of SE5 can be played against each other. But you'll want all players to be playing the same version (the version number is displayed on the first window of the game).

2. How do you scrap facilities?

Use the Cargo Orders \ Scrap Cargo order.

3. Why do I have zero Research Points?

The following are possible reasons why you have zero Research Points each turn:
a. You do not have any Research Center facilities on your planets.
b. You do not have a Spaceport facility in the solar system to delivery the points to your empire.
c. You have a treaty with another empire that does not allow research.

4. Why do I have zero Intelligence Points?

The following are possible reasons why you have zero Research Points each turn:
a. You do not have any Intelligence Center facilities on your planets.
b. You do not have a Spaceport facility in the solar system to delivery the points to your empire.
c. You have a treaty with another empire that does not allow intelligence.
d. When the game was setup, under Game Options / Player Restrictions the option "Players can conduct intelligence projects" was not selected.

5. Why don't my ships shoot in combat?

Ships require supplies and ordnance to fire their weapons. Supplies are needed for beam weapons, and ordnance are needed for projectile or missile weapons.

6. Why won't my ship move into a sector? It has some strange icon at the bottom of the sector with 9 stars...

Ships will not move into sectors where you have a "Marked Minefield". A marked minefield will appear in any sector where your ships have run into a minefield. You can also place this icon or remove it yourself. Under Empire Options \ Movement, you can toggle whether your ships will move through these sectors or not.

7. Why do my ships not attack a planet and instead retreat?

The most likely cause for this is that you have a treaty which states that planet bombardment is not allowed. In version 1.16 or later, you will see an icon over the planet in Tactical Combat which indicates that it cannot be bombarded.
Another possibility is that you have a troop transport with troops on it in your group of ships. If you have a ship that wants to drop troops on a planet, and a strategy which supports this, then your ships will not fire on the planet.
